Shoreham College Remembers

Shoreham College gathered last thursday afternoon to mark the fallen in a moving act of remembrance. Held every year in honour of the former pupils who gave their lives in defence of the country, it was well attended by all year 7 and upward pupils, parents, grandparents and staff.

The College CCF's Colour party presented the school banner to the Reverend George Butterworth and wreaths were laid by Richard Taylor-West, Headmaster; David Abbott, President of the Old Shorehamer's Association; and CCF Cadet and Shoreham College pupil Reuben.  Joshua and Erin, Head Boy and Girl, read the roll of honour, whilst Isabel played the Last Post and Reveille beautifully.

The College held the ceremony indoors in the Lewes Hall, as the weather was unpredictable, with wreaths being laid at the outdoor memorial at the College.

Mr Taylor-West said 'Remembrance was marked by the College with sincere feeling. I am always struck by the fact that, though the Great War was 100 years ago, the pupils are still engaged by the gravity of the moment.'
